Common Website Terms
Are you unclear on what to request on ASCO's websites? This article details commonly used terms that the Web Operations team uses to evaluate and deliver work.

CTA or Call to Action
Button
An actionable task that you would like user(s) to take. For example, the CTA on a registration page would be a button that says, "Register Now"
Homepage
Website, Webpage
Homepage refers to the front page of a website. For example, asco.org is the homepage of ASCO.
Website
Homepage, Page, Webpage
Website refers to the entire website, such as asco.org or tapur.org, not an individual page or section of the website.
Webpage
Homepage, Website, Landing Page, Home, Tile
Webpage is an individual page of a website. For example, www.asco.org/practice-patients/quality-measures/measure-methodology
Vanity URL

An example of a vanity is: am.asco.org

Tile
Button
Refers to a navigational tile found at the bottom of a branch page. Adding or removing tiles requires an update to the site IA.
Webform
Webpage, Form
Webforms are embedded or hyperlinked forms, such as one would create in SurveyMonkey, Smartsheet, or within Drupal itself.
Landing Page
Home Page or Main Page
Branch Page
Webpage
Branch pages are specifically pages that branch off to other, related pages. Branch pages almost always feature navigational tiles at the bottom (see Tile).
Logo
An image file depicting a company or brand logo.
Header
Title
Headers are formatted text within the body of a page that indicate discrete sections of a page.
Top Navigation
Top bar, Header
Top Navigation is the persistent menu across the website.
Footer
Bottom area, Address
The footer on most of ASCO's websites contain the address, copyright, and legal information.
Float
When this term is used, we are saying that we will add an image or video inline with text on the page. We use "float right" for right alignment and "float left" for left alignment. It is not referring to floating over copy.
Embed
We use this term for putting videos on webpages. The code is typically added to the page and "embed" is a widely used term.
